The Labour Court has disqualified two aspirants who were to challenge Mr Tom Odege for the position of Secretary-General of the Union of Kenya Civil Servants Union over their education qualifications.

Lady Justice Maureen Onyango of the Employment & Labour Relations Court ruled that Justus Mugo and John ole Kina did not have the qualifications to vie for the position in the elections that were disrupted last month.

Tom Odege said the court had “answered all his prayers” adding that the process was now fully on course urging members to remain united and speak in one

The judge also ruled that the union was now free to hold elections any time before September 30 2021, clearing the way for the incumbent to romp home as his main challengers are now out of the race. Speaking to The Weekly Vision on phone, Mr Odege said the union’s postponed delegate’s conference would be held soon and elections conducted as per the court’s ruling and union constitution.

He said the court had “answered all his prayers” adding that the process was now fully on course urging members to remain united and speak in one voice for the goodwill of the 270,000 civil servants

There were no comments from the opposing side, Mr Wilson Asingo Nairobi County executive secretary only claiming that they were still reading extracts of the ruling before responding.
