He will move CBK to Sugoi if elected president, Atwoli warns
COTU secretary Francis Atwoli has once again lambasted Kenya’s deputy president William Ruto, saying he should never be made president. Mr Atwoli was speaking while opening a conference composed of journalist drawn from the East African region in Nairobi. He said Ruto was ‘day dreaming” to be president in 2022 elections.
The three day conference is being hosted by the Kenya Union of Journalists and sponsored by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and drew delegates from member unions Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Rwanda and Burundi.
Mr Atwoli wondered why Uhuru should retire and leave Ruto in office to continue ‘looting state coffers” saying the two have shared power for two terms of five years each, why should the president retire and leave Ruto “in office”?
Firing from both hips, a combatant Atwoli, later hosted delegates for supper at Carnivore. He accused Ruto of being a “big thief’ who will transfer the central bank of Kenya to Sugoi if elected. The COTU boss urged Kenyans to beware the “charms of the man from Sugoi” saying he is the least qualified and should retire like his boss Uhuru once their “joint ticket” expires.
He wondered why Uhuru should retire and leave Ruto in office to continue ‘looting state coffers” saying the two have shared power for two terms of five years each, why should the president retire and leave Ruto “in office” he must also go home thundered the COTU boss.
Atwoli bare knuckled attacks on Ruto come at a time 7 court of Appeal Judges have started the BBI case that was halted mid-stream stalling a national referendum to amend the 2010 constitution. BBI is bitterly opposed by Ruto and his splinter team who rally around the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Most political watchers agree that the verdict of the courts on BBI could likely determine the outcome of the 2022 transition polls barely a year away and whose main frontrunner are ODM leader Raila Odinga and DP Ruto.
Others are ANC Musalia Mudavadi, Wiper Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka and KANU’s Gideon Moi. Atwoli widely reputed as Mulembe Nation’s kingmaker through periodically anointing community “spokesman”, is a fierce advocate of unity in Luhyaland, and an ardent supporter of Raila Odinga whom he calls “shemeji’ or borther in-law.
