A youth leader from Kabuchai in Bungoma County has urged fellow youths from the county and especially those who operate Boda Bodas to desist from the habit of receiving handouts from politicians saying that the practice has brought animosity among various youth groups in the county.

“If we are not careful, by 2022 our wives will be widows just because of petty political handouts,” he warned. In September during Deputy President William Ruto’s tour of the county, youths engaged in running battles soon after the DP had left Kabuchai after donating Kshs. 500,000.00 to the group to share among them.

The DP was hosted by Ford Kenya Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga. Kalasinga was elected in March this year on a Ford Kenya party ticket during a by-election after the death of James Mukwe. Kalasinga was accompanied by five Jubilee MPs: Dan Wanyama (Webuye West), John Waluke (Sirisia), Didmus Barasa (Kimilili), Fred Kapondi (Mt Elgon) and Mwambu Mabonga (Bumula)

In the resultant melee, scores of youths were badly injured, some are still hospitalized with grave injuries, and many others are still at large fearing attack from rival gangs

The youths seem to have disagreed on the modalities of sharing out the money leading to a fight that left a number of them hospitalized some with serious injuries. According to witnesses at the scene, a commotion ensued after the Boda Boda youths failed to agree on how the Kshs.500k left by DP Ruto was to be shared, leading to a furious exchange of blows and other crude weapons.

In the resultant melee, scores of youths were badly injured, some are still hospitalized with grave injuries, and many others are still at large fearing attack from rival gangs. The animosity has led to banning Chwele motorcycles in Kabuchai according to a witness who sought anonymity and in retaliation, those from Kabuchai were also barred from setting in Chwele.
