Battle for State House Is On As IEBC Clears Odinga and Ruto For Presidential Run

The race for the highly coveted State House has officially begun. The two main contestants on the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance Raila Odinga and Deputy President William of UDA- Kenya Kwanza brigade were cleared to run by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

The battle now shifts into wooing voters from across the country in the next two months to convince them to cast their ballot papers in their favour. After being cleared on Saturday, DP Ruto and his brigade headed straight to the historic Kamukunji grounds to celebrate with his supporters, thumping his chest that he will defeat his rival Raila Odinga in the August 9th election to become the 5th President of the Republic of Kenya, he was accompanied by his running mate Rigathi Gachagua.

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua were cleared the following day on Sunday to contest for the presidency in the August General Election. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati said the of Mr Odinga and Ms Karua’s nomination papers were in order. Mr Odinga becomes the fifth presidential candidate to be cleared to contest. The others are Deputy President William Ruto, Prof George Wajackoyah of Roots Party, Walter Mong’are of Umoja Summit Party and lawyer David Mwaura Waihiga of Agano party.

After Bomas, Mr Odinga led the Azimio brigade to Undugu grounds in Lang’ata constituency for a rally at noon. He then proceeded to Nakuru County for a series of roadside rallies starting at 2 pm and a major rally at Mazembe Grounds (Bondeni Ziwani at 4 pm.
