Martha Karua was the Chief Guest before jetting to Kakamega’s Bukhungu Stadium to join Raila Odinga on the campaign trail, she said the August 9th 2022 polls will be between those who fought for the liberation of our country against opportunists in Kenya Kwanza
Last weekend the Azimio la Umoja Alliance unleashed women battalion the alliance hopes will help in securing at least ten million votes for its Presidential candidate Raila Odinga and running mate Martha Karua at the next elections.
The women leaders declared that the alliance will start with at least a million voters from the women of Kenya. They will then aggressively escalate the number and attract women voters from across the country before the polling date arrives on August 9th, 2022.
The declaration was made during an Azimio women’s event in honour of the alliance’s Presidential running mate Martha Karua at the Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA) Auditorium off Kajiado road. Ida Odinga also attended the event, and some of the country’s re-known women political veterans like the first woman legislator from Busia County who is also the leader of Labour Party of Kenya (LPK) Professor Julia Ojiambo, former Maendeleo ya Wanawake boss and Zipporah Kittony among many others.
”We are more than one million women voters in Kenya, but we are going to start with one million and fight for Martha Karua to bring in more than ten million women votes for the Azimio Alliance during the August 9th, general elections.” – Ida Odinga
Martha Karua was the Chief Guest before jetting to Kakamega’s Bukhungu Stadium to join Raila Odinga on the campaign trail. Setting the mood for the battle Ida said: “This is a great event in the history of our nation. We are more than one million women voters in Kenya, but we are going to start with one million and fight for Karua to bring in more than ten million women votes for the Azimio Alliance during the August 9th, general elections.” She said that it was also historic that for the first time in the country’s history, a seasoned woman leader is going to fight for the country’s second most powerful office, to represent the women’s interests.
Martha Karua said the August 9th 2022 polls will for the first time in the history of the country be between those who fought for the liberation of our country against opportunists in Kenya Kwanza who did not. Martha Karua also appealed to Kenyans to vote for people who have been fighting for the country’s liberation from exploitation, political and constitutional exclusion, outright misrule, corruption and many other ills that have plagued and continue plaguing the country.
“Raila Odinga and I are perfect examples of politicians who have fought to liberate Kenya from oppression. We have been fighting for and advocating for gender inclusion and equality and will continue doing so when in office. We do not give wishful thinking promises to Kenyans,” she said. She added that in Kenya, the people that have always fought for the liberation in the country have never been elected to the presidency, arguing that even those who occupied Statehouse after independence were not the ones who had fought in the forests.
Ms Karua drummed up support for her Presidential Candidate Raila saying that he is the one who has been fighting and championing women rights, especially during the UN-fought world conference of women in Beijing held in 1995.
