An attempt by an American tourist to hawk DVDs in disguise at hitch-hiking a ride on a matatu from Kayole to Nairobi’s CBD turned nasty when he was caught and thrown out of the moving vehicle! Stunned passengers many with handbags travelling upcountry for Christmas Christmas holiday watched the drama unfold as the tall heavily bearded man who claimed to be a missionary from the USA was kicked out of the moving vehicle.

Attempts by the man to hawk DVDs he claimed were about the life of Jesus Christ did not bear fruit as no one was interested in buying. Touts in vehicles plying the Kayole route are well known for being hard with money; they did not buy excuses from his Kenyan associate who made a promise to come back with the fare later on once they were through with selling DVDs.

“That’s not how things are done in Kenya,” said a heavily built bald man believed to be Forward Sacco Manager who happened to be in the matatu at the time when the incident happened. “You are a mzungu and you broke?” he asked sarcastically “then what are you doing here?, he taunted him. The Sacco manager appeared to sum up the opinion of many passengers “in Kenya when you see a mzungu you see money,” he added asking the tall American to stop thinking he can earn a living hawking DVDs in an African country.

The Weekly Vision has discovered that the American came to Kenya in 2019; he is from Washington State and came here as a tourist but has somehow fallen on hard times. His Kenyan girlfriend reportedly left him when he ran out of money. A source divulged that the man had been living large at the Kenya coast in world-famous luxurious five-star hotels.

It was not immediately clear what later happened to him as the man was kicked out of the matatu along Landhies road escaping a stream of curses from passengers not used to seeing a “broke mzungu” unable to pay bus fare!
