The albino community in Kenya accused briefcase NGOs of being vocal on FM radio talk shows only to vanish once millions of doner dollars land in their accounts. Some of the women albinos have claimed sex abuse and threats on their life. There are claims that witchcraft practitioners use the Albino body parts for get-rich charms a fact that has endangered the lives of many. Some of the Albinos residents in Nairobi had fled from neighbouring countries after being targeted by witch doctors.

But governments in East Africa have assured Albinos of protection, reacting to the challenges NGO council of Kenya Chairman Stephen Cheboi says he is aware of the briefcase NGO’s whose directors’ con donors with bogus project proposals. He said they were being tracked down by police and he expects arrests to be made soon. Mr Cheboi told The Weekly Vision Online that plans are ongoing to support the nearly 3000 Kenyans living with albinism. He said the council had also launched sensitization drives to encourage albinos to register as voters for the 2022 elections.

Cheboi further urged Parliament to enact laws that will create more slots for Albinos to be nominated to parliament so they can end the lingering stigma. Albinism is a result of a lack of skin pigmentation. In many African cultures, people with albinism faced stigma.
