A Furious DP Ruto Fires Back At His Boss President Kenyatta Over Coup Claims

President Uhuru Kenyatta with DP William Ruto

“Even if you have chosen not to back me in the August 9th poll, stop the senseless propaganda”-DP Ruto

By The Weekly Vision Online

Deputy President William Ruto has told off his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta over the “palace coup attempt” remark he made last week at a meeting with Kikuyu elders.

The two former close allies drifted further apart as President Kenyatta told the elders at Statehouse that he was almost “overthrown” by Ruto!

The president made the stunning remarks as Ruto’s main challenger Azimio la Umoja candidate Raila Odinga also intensified attacks against the DP. Mr Odinga accused Ruto of grand corruption saying he donates a Ksh. 100 million a month when his official salary is Ksh. 2 million a month! “Where does he get all this money from if he is not stealing “fumed Odinga on a campaign trail in Western Kenya, one of his strongholds.

“How would I seek to overthrow a man I have thrice helped secure power even after his 2017 election victory was overturned by the Supreme Court and fresh polls ordered”? An angry DP wondered while addressing a political rally in Mombasa

DP Ruto was swift and blunt in his reaction. “Even if you have chosen not to back me in the August 9th poll, stop the senseless propaganda”! President Uhuru was quoted speaking in his Kikuyu vernacular that his deputy had tried to oust him through an impeachment motion in parliament but details on how this was supposed to happen to remain scanty.

The two men were elected as a pair under the new 2010 constitution directly as president and deputy (running mate) making it difficult for one to be kicked out without precipitating a fresh election. But according to President Kenyatta, Ruto is said to have tried to “overthrow” him for reasons yet to be made public.

“How would I seek to overthrow a man I have thrice helped secure power even after his 2017 election victory was overturned by the Supreme Court and fresh polls ordered”? An angry DP wondered while addressing a political rally in Mombasa.

With only four months before Mr Kenyatta steps down as president, DP Ruto’s aides have resorted to taking on the president head-on with ANC leader Musalia Mudaadi and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetangula leading the fray.
